The Lexus IS250 is part of the Lexus IS line of cars. The Lexus IS lineup of car models is the entry level luxury car, compact executive car market entries of Lexus, the luxury car marque of Toyota.
The Lexus IS250 is part of the second generation of Lexus IS car models. The car was first introduced in the North American car market in 2005. It is the second debut vehicle of the new design philosophy of Lexus known as the L-finesse. This gave the Lexus IS250 a more stream lined look with contours that followed the design cues of a coupe and a profile reminiscent of fastbacks. The Lexus IS250 was first introduced to the public during the New York International Auto Show of 2005. Initial market reaction to the Lexus IS250 proved to be quite favorable. Unlike its predecessor, the Lexus IS250 was more luxurious and featured a number of high end accessories as well as a more refined build and construction. The Lexus IS250 also became a favorite for street racers and a number of after market upgrades are available for the Lexus IS250 which dramatically increase the performance of the car. Most of these are available from independent Japanese aftermarket companies such as TOM'S. These aftermarket tuning parts include body kits, ECU modifications and superchargers among others. The Lexus IS250 is also a capable performer on the road in its own right. This has made it one of the best value for money entry level luxury cars in the market.
The Lexus IS250 is one of the lesser powered cars in the Lexus IS lineup. Under the hood, the Lexus IS250 carries a 2.5 litre V6 engine which is capable of 204 hp. The standard transmission of the Lexus IS250 is a six speed manual transmission. There is an optional 6 speed automatic transmission available, however. The Lexus IS250 is also available as either a rear wheel drive vehicle or an all wheel drive vehicle. On the road, the Lexus IS250 is overshadowed by the more larger engined, more powerful models of Lexus IS vehicles. Thus, acceleration from stand still is not very impressive and the Lexus IS250 has some trouble with steep inclines. The suspension is par for the class. The car handles road bumps quite well and takes corners with little body lean. Steering for the Lexus IS250 is also quite responsive. One of the strong points of the Lexus IS250 is its higher fuel economy compared to the other Lexus IS models and to competitor models as well. However, as this comes at the price of performance, its not really that much of an advantage.
The Lexus IS car models are known for being high performance luxury vehicles. The Lexus IS250 strives to live up to this goal but it does not quite get it. The 2.5 litre V6 engine of the vehicle does not provide enough power for the car and it therefore lags behind its class competitors in terms of performance. For those who want performance, a better choice would be the bigger engined Lexus IS350. For those who want luxury and a small savings on fuel consumption, the Lexus IS250 is a good choice.
