Released in 1996, the Infiniti I30 was a mid size luxury car which was produced by Infiniti. The car was one of the most successful cars that Infiniti made. The Infiniti I30 filled the gap that the Infinti G20 left when it was first discontinued. At the time, the Infiniti I30 took over as the entry level mid size luxury car. The I30 was quite successful as well and sold a considerable number of unites. The Infiniti I30 actually traces its roots to the J30 sedan. The Infinti I30 was originally created to be the replacement of the J30. The Infiniti I30 had a more sportier image than the J30 and was often considered to be a sports sedan although it never actually was one. Also, the Infiniti I30 was considered a luxury car competitor when, in fact the Infiniti G20, the car that the I30 replaced, was actually the car with the least price tag in the Infiniti lineup. The Infiniti I30 lost its place as the entry level luxury car when the Infiniti G20 was reintroduced in 1999. The second generation of the Infiniti I30 was called the Infiniti I35 and was a complete redesign. This time around, Infiniti marketed the Infiniti I30 as a sports sedan, flaunting its many sporty changes to the market. This was mainly unsuccessful. The Infiniti I30 enjoyed prominence in the mid size luxury car department. However, it was considered to be one of the lesser luxury class models and could not adequately compete with the class leaders. The car's performance was more on the average side though the V6 did give it a lot of going power. The Infiniti I30's suspension was a bit lacking in performance and should have performed better for a car of its class. The Infiniti I30's base trim was quite well equipped. Add to that the exquisite customer service of Infiniti and the competitive pricing of the car and there is little wonder why the infiniti I30 performed as well as it did in the market. The last model of the Infiniti I30 was the I35 which was basically the same car although several upgrades were applied to the car. Most notable of which, and the reason why the Infiniti I30 was renamed to the Infiniti I35 was the change of engine displacement from the original 3.0 litre to 3.5 litre. The engine was now the VQ35DE while originally it was the VQ30DE. The VQ35DE was a 3 litre V6 engine which produced an output of 255 hp for the I35. The Infiniti I35 also received interior revisions, better suspension system tuning, larger brakes and a number of optional equipment. The Infiniti I35 was only available with the automatic transmission. The performance of the Infiniti I35 was generally believed to be just above normal for a car of its class. The car's acceleration was impressive but was hampered by the automatic transmission which seemed to dislike downshifting for traffic passing. The handling of the car was less agile than most and the I30 also had a less than adequate suspension which didn't handle bumps as well as can be expected from a car of its class. The I30 is a suitable car second hand car. Although a luxury car, the price of the a second hand Infiniti I30 should be on the cheap side seeing as how the Infiniti I30's market value has devaluated.
