The Lexus GS300 is part of the mid size luxury sport sedan released by Lexus, the luxury car marque of Toyota. Firs production of the Lexus GS300 was in 1993 and it was replaced withe the Lexus GS350 for the 2007 model year of the Lexus GS line up.
In the line up of car models of Lexus, the Lexus GS lineup was intended to be the mid size luxury sport sedan model. It was set to compete in the sports sedan luxury market dominated by BMW and Mercedes-Benz. It also bridged the gap between the Lexus ES and LS line of car models. The first models of the Lexus GS line of cars was partly based on the Toyota crown, particularly the running gear and the platform. The first of Lexus's GS car models was the Lexus GS300. The Lexus GS300 was based on the design of Guigiaro's Italdesign car designing company. It blended several styling elements from the Lexus LS and the Lexus SC car models. It was the first rear wheel drive vehicle made by Lexus and this gave the Lexus GS300 better performance than the ES models of Lexus and featured a better set of amenities as well. Lexus also tried to place the Lexus GS to the abandoned price position of the Lexus LS400 which was then placed in higher spot. The Lexus GS300 received only modest sales and continued to drop over time partly due to the economic changes in Japan. The Lexus GS300 also had difficulty competing with other vehicles in its class because of its lack of a V8 engine option.
The Lexus GS300 featured a 3.0 litre I6 engine mated to a either a 4 speed automatic or a 5 speed automatic transmission. The basic features of the Lexus GS300 included an antilock 4 wheel disc brake system. an antiskid traction control system, front side airbags and in dash CD changer. Available options for the car included a navigation system, leather upholstery, heated front seats and driver seat memory. The Lexus GS300 was very nimble on the road though. However, it had the tendency of giving slow power on takeoff and then suddenly coming on strong. The automatic transmission of the Lexus GS300 was class leading. It performed transitions smoothly and proved to be quite responsive in both full automatic and manual modes of operation. With the powerful acceleration profile of the Lexus GS300, it provided a better than average fuel economy though other Lexus models offered better fuel economy. The Lexus GS300 handled road bumps well enough but the 17 inch tires results in an unnecessarily fidgety ride. The car is also quite agile and hugs the road very well, taking in corners without a hint of body roll.
As a mid size luxury sport sedan, the Lexus GS300 has its high points and its low points. For those looking for a high performance luxury sports car, the Lexus GS300 isn't really a class topper so another model might provide a better experience. For those looking for a fun ride in an elegant and well done luxury vehicle, the Lexus GS300 is the perfect car model. Headlights by State: ______________________
