The Pontiac G6 is a mid size car model sold by the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors. The car is a good seller for Pontiac. The car was released as the replacement of the long running and popular Pontiac Grand Am. The car was completely redesigned vehicle compared to its predecessors. The design of the car specifically addresses the complaints of the critics of past Pontiac car models. The main criticisms of past Pontic car models was its use, or overuse of plastic paneling and the dull gray color scheme used in the interior of the cars. The Pontiac G6 features a completely redesigned interior and exterior which simplified the dashboard of the car and featured gauges ringed with chrome. The Pontiac G6 also features a ong wheelbase which is built on the Epsilon platform of General Motors. The Pontiac G6 shares its platform with the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx. During its launch, the Pontiac G6 received major marketing promotion from GM which used more than a hundred million dollars. The most notable part of the campaign was the giving away of two hundred and seventy six units of the Pontiac G6 to the audience of the popular Oprah Winfrey during its 2004 season premier. However, this major marketing stunt of General Motors was heavily criticized as it did not target the main audience of the Pontiac G6 and the Pontiac G6 had still not fully reached the dealers of the car. The Pontiac G6 is the replacement of the Pontiac GTO.R in the Rolex Sports Car Series GT class. The car is known as the Pontiac GXP.Rs. The Pontiac G6 was offered in several trim models. On its initial release, the base model of the Pontiac G6 received the Ecotec 2.4 litre inline four engine capable of 169 hp. The GTP trim of the car, its top model line, came with a V6 3.9 litre engine capable of 240 hp. The convertible versoin of the car was available with the same engine, though with an output of 227 hp because of exhaust system which was different. In the 2007 model year, the V6 3.5 litre engine of the car gained Variable Valve Timing which gave it a boost in power output to 224 hp. The GTP trim got a different V6 3.6 litre High Feature engine with 24 valves and DOHC capable of 252 hp. The 3.9 litre V6 engine of the GTP trim became an option for the GT trim of the Pontiac G6. The GTP trim was only available with an automatic six speed transmission. The 3.9 litre engine was later dropped in the Pontiac G6 lineup. The Pontiac G6 offers one of the best mid size car model packages available in the car markets today. This car model rates a buy as a brand new mid size car model and as a second hand car buy. Unfortunately, the Pontiac G6 does not have a low price tag and even second hand car buyers will have a tough time finding an affordably priced second hand model of the Pontiac G6 as prices will still be relatively high because the Pontiac G6 is a relatively new release.
