The G1500 of Chevrolet traces its roots to the GMC G-series that was introduced in 1996. The G-series of the Chevy was introduced just at the same time when the H-series was also introduced in the US market. The Express G1500 is a full-size van, which means that this type of vehicle can be relied upon on and off the road. What is referred to as a full-size van is simply a label to call the vehicles that are large and a boxy one that will often share the same platform and power train to the light trucks. The G1500 is like that and more. The G1500 is simply the half-ton version of the G1500. When the Savana and the Express was introduced in the market in 1996, these two vans from GMC has managed to snatch a significant version of the market. Though the Savana and the Express has made its mark in the market, the move wasn’t enough to push the vehicle at the top position. The top position in the van niche market is still controlled by the Ford F-series. The G1500 half-ton version and the rest of the members of the G-series remained almost untouched until 2003. But by 2003, a change was made on the vehicle. For this year the Express G1500 gained a change in its construction and looks thru the use of the updated sheet metal that was similar to the GMT800 light trucks and SUVs at that time. This was the time as well when the G1500 was fitted with the LS engines. Again by 2004 another change was made on the full-size van, but this time the Stabilitrak was made available on the vehicle. The interior of the vehicle was well-attended as well and this time the interior of the van was updated and at the same time a few more standards are added on the G1500. Examples of these standards are the side impact roof airbags. Just like any vans out there, the G1500 isn’t as fuel efficient as the cars. For example the 1997 G1500 has an official mpg of 14 for city driving and the official figure for highway driving is pegged at 18 miles per gallon. The combine mpg of the vehicle stands at 16 miles per gallon. With these figures, you cannot expect to use the van for a long and sweet trip around the city blocks. The G1500 may come in different types as well and people and van buyers can choose which one is suited to their needs. Buyers can opt for the passenger-type G1500 or the cargo-type G1500. If a person may need to choose between the two, the choice will depend on the needs of the buyer. If the cargo management is of prime importance then the G1500 should be selected. But if the van will be used by a big family, then the passenger G1500 should be chosen. No matter what is chosen, a buyer can rest assured of the quality because it’s from Chevy and GMC.
