The Ford Motor Company, an American Multinational Corporation, is considered as one of the world’s largest automaker and one of the world’s most profitable companies. It has survived the Great Depression and is largely family – controlled. As part of the automotive industry, its products include mainstream and performance vehicles and automotive parts all over the world. It also owns a one – third controlling interest of Mazda in Japan and has a small holding of Aston Martin in England. Ford manufactures automobiles in the United States under several names including Lincoln and Mercury.
The Ford Motor Company has its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. It was founded by Henry Ford when he was forty years old with the use of $28,000 in cash from twelve investors, including John and Horace Dodge who would later on found their own car company. The Ford Motor Company was incorporated in the year 1903 on the 16th of June. In its first few years of operation, the company produced just a few cars a day. Groups of men in twos or threes would work on a car from components made to order by other companies.
For over one hundred years now, Ford Motor Company has produced cars synonymous with quality and excellence. Take the Ford F - 150 as an example. The Ford F–150 is a full–size, pick–up truck that has been sold for over five decades. It is equipped with performance handling that was developed by a world–champion driver. The Ford F–150 has aluminum wheels and gas–charged shocks and two different body styles. Another example is the Ford Ranger, a compact pick–up truck. With the new design of the fourth generation of the Ford Ranger, the vehicle has new bucket seats to meet the new safety requirements of the U.S. Federal. And let’s not forget the Ford Crown Victoria, the rear–wheel drive full–size car first produced in the mid 1950s. Also known as the “Crown Vic”, the Ford Crown Victoria continues to be popular because of its conventional rear–wheel drive and V8 power, which is popular with police driving techniques.
The future of the Ford Motor Company includes the pursuit for alternative fuel vehicles and hybrids. Other hybrids to look out for include the Ford Fusion and the Mercury Hilan Hybrid version. Ford continues to study the Fuel Cell – powered electric powertrains. It is developing new hybrid – electric systems for the new generation. With these in mind, there will surely be a considerable decrease in air pollution as well as noise pollution. Even the designs for the vehicle interiors have gone green, with the designers using sustainable seat fabric produced entirely from post industrial materials. A soy foam technology in seat cushions and seat backs will also be launched soon.
Without a doubt, the Ford Motor Company will continue to appeal to the wide array of potential customers with different preferences from cars, SUVs, trucks and the many other products and services offered by the Ford Motor Company.
