The F-150 is a half ton pick up truck that was introduced by the Ford Motor Company in 1975. It is a the sixth generation variant of Ford's full-size pick up truck line called the F-series. The first F Series line was released in 1948 to replace the company's previous car-based pickup line. It is constituted with trucks having various gross vehicle weight rating to cater to the many different customers that had varied heavy duty transportation needs. The most common model was the half ton F-1 with a 6 1/2 ft bed with a maximum GVWR of 4,700. Then, it was followed by the 3/4 ton F-2 and the Heavy Duty 3/4 ton F-3 Express models with an 8 ft bed, which had the maximum GVWR of 5,700 and 6,800 respectively. From 1948 through 1942, these trucks were equipped with either the 226 CID (3.7 L) Flathead V6 engine generating 95 hp , or the 239 CID (3.9 L) Flathead V-8 engine generating 100 hp . By 1952, the engines were replaced by the 215 CID ( 3.5 L) Straight-6 (L-Head) engine generating 1101 hp . The F-1 had 3-speed light duty transmission with the optional 3-speed heavy duty and 4-speed spur gear. The F-2 and the F-3 had the 3-speed heavy duty transmission with the optional 4-speed spur gear. All F-series were available in "Marmon-Herrington All Wheel Drive" until 1959.By 1953, the F-Series was redesigned for a more integrated look. The pick-ups was also renamed. The F-1 became the F-100, the F-2 became the F-250, and the F-3 now became the 1 ton F-350. Also, the "Ford-O-Matic" automatic transmissions became an option for all trucks. Ford continued to redesign and upgrade the F-Series, widening and improving the trim levels as they saw fit for their market. Starting on the 1956 models, Ford began to offer "Low GVWR" versions of each model for those who needed the toughness of such trucks yet requiring only lighter loads. The interior amenities of the trucks were also altered to fit the changing conventional trends, including a dome light, lighter, arm rests, and sun visors. The F-Series continued to undergo expansion and renewal to better match the diverse market that by the 1965 update of the powertrain, power exceeded 200 hp. Ten years after, the F-150 was released help circumvent coming emissions requirements. It was slotted above the F100 and below the F-250, and was referred to as the "heavy half ton." In contrast to the long running chiseled box look, the F-150 was given a rounded body in 1997 exuding a distinct masculine charm. There were a wide array of body options available such as the regular cab and SuperCab, standard or flareside boxes, and short and long beds. And by 2001, the SuperCrew cab was introduced which had four full-sized doors. The FX4 version was released in 2002 which came with skid plates, Rancho shock absorbers, and FX4 specific 17" Aluminum wheels. By 2003 the trim levels followed the following hierarchy: XL, STX, XLT, FX4, LARIAT, KING RANCH, HARLEY DAVIDSON. On the same year, the latest F-150 model was named Truck of the year by Motor Trend magazine. Ford have been consistent in the enhancement of their vehicles that by 2002 the F-150 had three new engine choices: a 252 hp4.2 L V6 with 252 ft-lb of torque, 231 hp 4.6 L V8 with 293 lb-ft, and a 260 hp 5.4 L V8 with 350 lb-ft of twist. Almost all models Trucks from the first half of the 1990s could be considered the last of the F-150s wherein utility came before luxury, whereas the more recent ones exude luxurious comfort, and sleek visibility amidst functionality. Overall, the Ford F-Series offers a variety of trucks for its diverse target market. This truck can conveniently transform from a charming drive around town to a tough hauling machine.
