The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a compact SUV introduced by Toyota in 2003, during the Chicago Auto Show of the same year. Huge market response to the concept model led to the production model of the vehicle being released in 2006 as a 2007 car model. The Toyota FJ Cruiser enjoys high market prominence in its model class. The Toyota FJ Cruiser is considered to be one of the most uniquely designed compact SUVs running on the roads of the U.S. these days. It features a very retro inspired design which is highly reminiscent of the classic Toyota Land Cruiser. The Toyota FJ Cruiser, however features more stylized lines geared towards younger buyers. The Toyota FJ Cruiser increases the SUV lineup of Toyota and actually joins the Toyota RAV4 in the compact SUV model line up of Toyota. This is not surprising as the Toyota FJ Cruiser was never intended for production and was only considered as a concept model. Only after a huge response from the SUV market did Toyota finally start production of the car and the first production models were released to a raving public in 2006. The Toyota FJ Cruiser is surprisingly adept at both off road and on road driving. Along with its trendy design, this has made the Toyota FJ Cruiser one of the most popular compact SUVs for young, off roading enthusiasts. The Toyota FJ Cruiser is actually based on the earlier Toyota 4Runner model even if its styling borrows a number of cues from the Toyota Land Cruiser. The engine of the Toyota FJ Cruiser is a capable 4 litre V6 engine which can produce an output of 239 hp. It is available as either 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. Automatic and manual transmission is available with automatic transmission being the standard transmission. The 4WD version of the Toyota FJ Cruiser is available with a manual transmission. While both the 2WD and the 4WD offer low range gearing for off road capabilities, only the 4WD system with the manual transmission can handle smooth road driving while left engaged. A solid vehicle, the Toyota FJ Cruiser is lauded as a very capable off roader. However, this has meant that the Toyota FJ Cruiser takes a hit with on road performance. The high profile of the vehicle makes it lean on corners and susceptible to crosswinds. It has power to spare on the pavement and on the dirt track, though the manual transmission performs better than the automatic transmission. Fuel economy is just about average for its class. The Toyota FJ Cruiser is an excellent vehicle for those who want an SUV that has a bark and a bite. Its unique styling doesn't hurt as well. The ruggedness of the Toyota FJ Cruiser hurts its on road performance slightly, however. . Headlights by State: ______________________
