The Pontiac Executive was a full size car made by General Motor's Pontiac Motor Division. The car sold moderately during its shour four year run. The Pontiac Executive was first released in 1967. The car was positioned as the mid entry model in the full size line up of cars from Pontiac. The car was placed above the entry level Pontiac Catalina, featuring a higher level of standard trim, more standard features and a longer body length and wheelbase. The dimensions of the Pontiac Executive matched the Pontiace Bonneville which was the top of the line model of Pontiac. However, it did not share the Pontiac Bonneville's high end feature set and luxury trim. The Pontiac Executive was the replacement car model for the mid range Pontiac Star Chief. In the 1966 model year, Pontiac car models in the mid range line up were named as the Pontiac Star Chief Executive but this only lasted for the 1966 model year. The next year, the cars were named as the Pontiac Executive. In terms of mechanical components, the Pontiac Executive carried the same components as the Pontiac Catalina. Notably, the Pontiac Executive was offered with the same standard and optional engines offered in the Pontiac Catalina car line up. The transmissions offered for the Pontiac Executive were basically the same as those offered in the Pontiac Catalina car line as well. Throughout its production period, the Pontiac Executive did not sell exceptionally well for Pontiac. Since its first release in 1967, sales of the car were declining until its discontinuation in 1970. The declining sales of the Pontiac Executive led to the discontinuation of the car model name in 1970. The Pontiac Executive full size vehicle was offered in several body styles including a two door hardtop coupe, a four door pillared sedan, a four door hardtop coupe and a station wagon called the Safari in two seat and three seat configuration. The Safari version of the Pontiac Executive was differentiated from the Safari versions of the Pontiac Bonneville and the Pontiac Catalina by its paneling of simulated wood. There were no convertible body types available for the Pontiac Executive. The Pontiac Executive was offered with the same engine options as the Pontiac Catalina. The base engine available was a 400 cubic inch V8 engine that had two barrel carburetor which had a rated output of 265 hp. The highest engine available was an HO V8 428 cubic inch engine with a rated output of 390 hp. In 1970, the car was offered with a 455 cubic inch V8 engine with an output of 370 hp. The Pontiac Executive is a classic car made during the time of big engines and large car bodies. For regular car buyers, this means that the car was a solid, spacious and reliable vehicle which consumes too much fuel to be viable for daily driving today. The car is most suited for classic car enthusiasts who like to recondition and maintain a classic vehicle from the late 1960s. . Headlights by State: ______________________
