The Ford Econoline has been in production since 1961. However, the current generation technically started in 1992. From that year, Econoline passenger van was known as the Club Wagon, however, by 1998, it has come to be known as the E-Series Wagon. The E-Series Wagon has always been available in E-150, and E-350 models with extended and extended lengths. Also, the E-Series Wagon was offered in three trim levels: the XL, XLT, and the Chateau. An E-250 model was also offered but was discontinued at some point. The E-Series Wagon models have been offered with various options and packages since the van can actually be adjusted according to the buyer’s needs and specifications. The 1992 version of the E-Series Wagon was equipped with a standard 4.9 L inline-six engine with three optional gasoline V8s and a diesel V8. These engines were replaced in 1997 with a standard V6, two new V8s, and a new V10 engine, whereas the V8 diesel engine was retained. Style-wise, the E-Series Cargo was revamped in order to meet the latest interior standards of the Ford range. The exterior of the cargo van was also redesigned. The sides were now more rounded in order to be in line with the oval-theme that Ford was employing. In 2000, added features such as antilock brakes, passenger front airbags, and a stilt steering wheel. Three years after, the E-Series Cargo was given another grille design featuring two vertical bars with the Ford badge perched on the grille instead of the hood lip. By 2008, the basic body design of the wagon underwent minor upgrades. The braking and suspension systems as well as the steering configuration were modified in order to improve driving dynamics. The front grille was also redesigned as well as the passenger seats. Passengers seated at the center of the rear seats can now benefit from seat-integrated 3-point belts. The Econoline wagon is offered in three sizes. The E-150 has seating for eight passengers. The E-350 Super Duty can hold up to 12 passengers while the E-350 Super Duty Extended could seat up to 15 passengers. All E-Series wagons are available in XL and XL trim, with the E-150 also offered in the more opulent Chateau trim. There are three engine choices for the E-Series Wagon. A 4.6L V8 engine, generating 225 hp with 286 lb-ft of torque is standard on the E-150 wagon. A 5.4 L V8 engine, generating 225 hp with 350 lb-ft of torque is an optional engine for the E-150 models while it is the standard for both E-350 models. Transmissions on both engines come in 4-speed automatic. A 6.0 L PowerStroke turbodiesel engine, generating 235 hp with 440 lb-ft of torque is an optional engine for the E-350 models. This engine definitely provides more power, a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs, and efficient fuel economy. Since the 1980’s has a reputation of being the number one selling full-size passenger wagon. However, the minimal upgrades on its interior and it structure makes it less competitive in the modern market in terms of looks. But then, its praise worthy passenger comfort, respectable reputation for reliability, and lesser price tag are major contributors for its continued availability in the market. Related Bookmarks
