The Toyota Echo is a subcompact car produced in Japan and available in the North American car market from 2000 to 2005 by the Japanese car company, Toyota. The Toyota Echo did not enjoy as active a market impact as other Toyota car models which explains its short production period.
The Toyota Echo is a subcompact which is the product of Toyota's attempts at capturing the young car buyers market with small, stylish vehicles that. The Toyota Echo was also known as the Toyota Yaris and the Toyota Platz in other car markets. It was a product of the Toyota Project Genesis, a program of Toyota which aimed to entice young car buyers to the Toyota car marque. The programme was considered to be a failure by many observers although it did birth the highly successfully Scion car models of Toyota. The Toyota Echo had a better market impact in Canada than in the United States. The car was ultimately discontinued in 2005 and was replaced by the Toyota Yaris. During its production period, it was the entry level car of Toyota. One unique feature of the Toyota Echo was the placement of its gauges and speed meters. Unlike traditional dash layouts, the gauges and speed meters of the Toyota Echo were located at the center of the dash rather than behind the steering wheel.
The Toyota Echo was a front engine front drive layout car. As a subcompact, the engines available for the car was a low power I4 4 cylinder 1.5 litre engine capable of 108 hp. Transmission was either a 4 speed automatic or a 5 speed manual transmission. The Toyota Echo also came with a number of features available such as 15 inch wheels, power windows and in-dash CD changer among other options. The Toyota Echo was considered as one of the lightest car models in its class. Thus, even with its low power engine, it was still a capable road runner. However, the small profile and light weight of the Toyota Echo made it an uncomfortable ride on the highways. Its relatively high profile also made it susceptible to crosswinds and gave the car a marked body lean when cornering in fast speeds. The Toyota Echo performs best on city use where its small size and high maneuverability can be put to good use. It is also a very fuel efficient vehicle which is one of its main attractions.
The Toyota Echo is available in markets today only as second hand units. There are plenty of positives working for the car and it offers great value for its car model class. The successor of the Toyota Echo offers a more substantial package however but the Echo will more likely be available at lower prices. Headlights by State: ______________________
