In 1997 this Chevrolet Corvette C5 is a sports car that went on sale and ended in 2004 model year. It is the fifth generation of Corvettes that was built and marketed by Chevrolet and was replaced by C6 model. This was a radical change from the previous generation. This was designed as a sturdy convertible not like the coupe that was subsequently weakened by the removal of the roof structure in order to accommodate demand for convertible model. The squeaks and rattles of the C4 was gone by replacing strong frame that would last for at least 2 generation and so the C5 is better than the C4. The styling of the C5 is a departure of the trend set of the previous generation of Corvette, wherein the style of the C4 is just a simplification of the C3 hatchback design. C5 has a more rounded and graceful appearance than that of the C3 that helped to recaptured the aggressive looks without compromising the aerodynamics. In 1998, C5 was seen as the convertible pace of Indianapolis and that time the replica pace car was sold. C5 Corvettes paced the 2002 and 2004 Indianapolis 500 races but no replica paces was sold during that model year. In 1999 the third body style called the hardtop was added to the line up (that was also called as “fixed-roof coupe” or “FRS”) it was tagged as fixed top as its name and style suggest. Because of so many changes the C5 achieves comparatively high EPA ratings of 18/6 mpg. with the automatic transmission and in manual 19/28 allowing it to avoid the “gas guzzler” tax that is levied against the other Corvette’s vehicle. The light weight of the C5, Chevrolet omitting the spare tire as weight saving measure instead running in flat tire, C5 low drag coefficient and it’s tendency to up shift into a higher gear as soon as possible are the 3 factors in avoiding the C5 of the gas guzzler tax. Suspension choices for the based model C5 is limited to the standard suspension. Although C5 is criticized arguably for using light materials, overhead valve engine, and reliance upon leaf spring on its suspension and interpreted as cheap and easy, C5 is quickly regarded as the best performance vehicle available for a price.
