Cadillac Cimmarron Headlights: Find Your Replacement Cimmarron Headlight Assembly

The Cadillac Cimarron was Cadillac's compact car introduced in 1981 and sold until 1988. The Cadillac Cimarron was a very unsuccessful model by Cadillac and its claim to fame may be that it was one of the failures that almost drove Cadillac to bankruptcy.

The intended market for the Cadillac Cimarron were the compact car drivers who, at the time were buying imports such as BMW, Mercedez-Benz and Audi compact car models. The Cadillac Cimarron was scheduled for a later release than its release date. The car was rushed into production with predictable results. The Cadillac Cimarron is the smallest Cadillac model ever produced. It is also the least distinguished with an unimpressive engine and design. The main failure of the Cadillac Cimarron may have been how it seemed to be an economy car while Cadillac has always been synonymous with prestige. Even Cadillac may have been aware of this as the Cadillac Cimarron was supposedly to be introduced by Cadillac's sales people as "Cimarron, by Cadillac". The Cadillac Cimarron was also based on the GM J platform which it shared with several other cars such as the Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunbird and Oldsmobile Firenza among others. This led many people to think that Cadillac was offering another version of the aforementioned car models at a significantly larger price. Thus, most buyers preferred the models from Pontiac, Oldsmobile and others instead. Conversely, traditional Cadillac buyers were unimpressed with the visibly economy car looks of the Cadillac Cimarron.

Technically, the Cadillac Cimarron shared more features in common with economy cars than with its fellow Cadillac models. The Cadillac Cimarron was based on the just released J platform of GM at the time. This was an economy car platform which is shared by all the economy car divisions of GM. The main differences of the cars were mainly cosmetic details. The Cadillac Cimarron had an 4 cylinder engine, making the Cadillac Cimarron the first 4 cylinder engine car since Cadillac 1914. The Cadillac Cimarron also had a manual 4-speed transmission, the first manual transmission that Cadillac offered since 1953. Air conditioning and power steering were standard in the Cadillac Cimarron. The car also hydraulic dampers in between the body and the subframe in order to give the car better handling. The Cadillac Cimarron continued to be improved by Cadillac during its production run, mainly to encourage buyers and to disassociate the car with its other GM J platform siblings.

There is very little reason for anyone to buy a Cadillac Cimarron. Fortunately, these cars are no longer readily available in the market. However, for those who find one, the Cadillac Cimarron might actually be a fun buy for the mere fact that the car is infamous for almost bringing Cadillac to its knees.
