Chrysler LLC has seen along-standing tradition of producing quality automobiles since 1925. It is currently based in the United States under the new management of Cerberus Capital Management. Before that, it was a part of a popular merger between the Daimler-Benz Company in 1998. The name of the company then was DaimlerChrysler AG. However, most of the share about 80.1% has been sold to the new management thereby giving way to the new name. This new development was finalized in August 3, 2007.
The reorganization of the Maxwell Motor Company gave ruse to the founding of this company by Walter Chrysler. He was initially hired to sort out the troubled operations; however, he was proved that the dilemma was proved hard to take care. When the operation of the Maxwell Company ceased, it was perfect opportunity for Mister Chrysler to launch a brand new company under his leadership; thus, the birth of Chrysler Corporation. As early as January of 1924, the six-cylinder automobile has been introduced to the market where it received a good feedback. This started the niche of the company of providing well-designed and affordable cars with advanced engineering. By 1936, this nature of the Chrysler cars propelled it to the top as high as second position in terms of sales in the US – a position that it consistently held until 1949. Within this span of years, they have managed to incorporate various innovations in their car models including mass-produced four-wheel hydraulic brakes. In 1934, they introduced the Airflow models – the first of its kind in the market according to the laws of aerodynamics. One of the salient features of these models is the wind tunnels. However, this change was not well received and has affected the sales of its cars until the 1950’s. In the 1960’s, they pioneered yet another innovation: the Unibody construction. With these developments, they have managed to expand in the in Europe. Nevertheless, despite its rising popularity, the US was still hit by the oil crisis affecting all car companies. This pushed the company to the brink of bankruptcy that they have sought help from the government in the form of a load amounting to 1.5 billion dollars. In December 20, 1979, the government, although with much hesitation, passed a bill to help the struggling corporation. The whole 1980’s was spent on repaying the loan. The 1990’s was focused on slowly regaining its niche in the automobile market. In 1997, a strategic move to widen its market was done by the company with its merger with Daimler-Benz. In 2007, the new management, Cerberus Capital Management, bought most shares.
Chrysler has a long list of famous models owing to owning of different brands including Dodge and Jeep. However, the popular ones under the Chrysler brand are the Town and Country, the 300, the Crossfire, and the Sebring together with its convertible version. All of these models have withstood several tests of time lasting with some lasting ten years or more.
Therefore, it is expected to see numerous models built with precision and advanced engineering in the mold of the Chrysler models in the future. A hybrid version of the Aspen will be introduced in 2009.
