The Toyota Celica was a coupe produced by Japan car maker Toyota. The Toyota Celica has had a long run in the car lineup of Toyota. The traditionally robust sales of the Toyota Celica seemingly dried up and the car was discontinued after 2005. The Toyota Celica has always been targeted to be a sporty, daily driver option for car drivers. The body type of the Toyota Celica has invariably been a coupe and it has also been available as a convertible, a notchback and a liftback variant. The name "Celica" is derived from the "coelica", a Latin word which means "heavenly". The Toyota Celica went through seven generations of production before its discontinuation. The Toyota Celica has always been considered to be the sportier model in the Toyota Celica with earlier model designs reminiscent of the design cues of earlier American muscle cars. In fact, the earlier Toyota Celicas took a lot of design cues from the Toyota 2000GT produced from 1967 to 1970 and it was originally intended to be a more affordable version of the car. Throughout its production, the Toyota Celica enjoyed high popularity in the car market. However, Toyota failed to exploit the emerging sports compact market in the early 2000s and was left behind by the competition which resulted in the low sales of the Toyota Celica and its consequent discontinuation in 2005. The last of the Toyota Celica is the 2005 Toyota Celica car model. The 2005 Toyota Celica followed the long held tradition of being a coupe and carrying only a 4 cylinder engine of the Toyota Celica. The 2005 Toyota Celica was available in two trims, the GT and the GT-S with the GT-S offered as the upscale trim of the car. The GT engine was an I4 1.8 litre engine capable of 140 hp mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. The more upscale GT-S version of the 2005 Toyota Celica featured the a 1.8 litre I4 engine capable of 180 hp mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. Optional automatic transmissions were available for both car trims though the GT-S gets a steering wheel control for manual shifts. Base features of the car include front side airbags, ABS, key-less entry, xenon headlamps, sunroof and a rear spoiler. There was also an Action Package available for both the GT and the GT-S trim which offered lower body panels and rear spoilers. The 2005 Toyota Celica was quick on the road, providing excellent acceleration especially with the manual transmission. Suspension was a but lively but tolerable. Handling for the Toyota Celica was its best feature, giving highly responsive steering and road hugging turns. The car also had an impressive fuel economy. As a coupe, the Toyota Celica did suffer from a lack of cabin space especially in the rear area. The Toyota Celica is an excellent car for those who want a sporty, fun to drive and economical car. The lack of cabin space is a concern, however. . Headlights by State: ______________________
