Another top seller from Toyota, the Toyota Camry is a mid size car manufactured by Japanese car maker Toyota. The Toyota Camry has been a consistent top seller for the past ten years or so.
The Toyota Camry started out as a compact car and was first introduced by Toyota in 1982 following two years of release as the Toyota Celica Camry. The name of the Toyota Camry is a phonetic transcription from the Japanese word for crown, "kanmuri". This is a long standing tradition of Toyota which began with the 1950s car model Toyota Crown continuing on to the Toyota Corolla and the Toyota Corona, the predecessor of the Toyota Camry. The 1994 to 1997 models of the Toyota Camry was also available as a coupe and a convertible. These were later separated to its own line called the Toyota Camry Solara during the 1999 model year. The Toyota Camry has long been known to be a solid performer, giving robust on road performance and offering attractive feature packaging. Like most Toyota car models, the Toyota Camry is also a reliable car and enjoys a high market perception because of the Toyota brand name and of its own marque as well. Thus, the Toyota Camry has enjoyed a huge market success in the North American car market. In fact, the biggest market for the Toyota Camry is the North American car market. In other markets such as its home market Japan and in Europe, it has inexplicably been a low seller. Critics have pointed out that this is because the Toyota Camry's design is more suited to American car buyers than European or Japanese ones.
The latest model of the Camry is the 2008 Toyota Camry. Released just a year after the 2007 redesign, the 2008 Toyota Camry offers no substantial changes from its previous models. The car has a front wheel front drive layout. Trim models available for the 2008 Toyota Camry include the CE, LE, SE and XLE. A hybrid 2008 Toyota Camry is also available with features similar to those of the XLE trim. The standard engine available for the non hybrod trim is a 4 cylinder 2 litre engine capable of 158 hp. There is also an optional V6 3.5 litre engine capable of 270hp. Standard transmission for the CE, LE and SE is a 5 speed manual transmission while a 5 speed automatic is the standard for the XLE trim and is available as an option for the other trims. The V6 version of the XLE features a six speed automatic transmission. The 2008 Toyota Camry Hybird uses a 4 cylinder 2.4 litre engine coupled with a battery powered motor. Transmission for the 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid is a CVT or continuously variable automatic transmission. The 2008 Toyota Camry performs just as solidly as earlier models of the car. The 4 cylinder engine is quite capable and the V6 engine offers even more of acceleration power. 4 cylinder models benefit more from a manual than an automatic transmission. V6 models perform just as well with either. The hybrid is slightly on the slow side when it comes to acceleration but it builds up speed fairly fast. Fuel economy is lowest with the V6 and best with the Hybrid. 4 cylinder engine models offer fuel consumption nearer to the Hybrid than the V6. The car also offers a smooth ride and steering is responsive and quick.
The Toyota Camry offers one of the best value for price in its class. Everything from power to fuel consumption works for the Camry and there is no reason why this car should not make it on the shopping list. Headlights by State: ______________________
