The Honda CR-X is compact sports car first produced by Honda in 1984. The car is a front wheel drive compact sports car known for its great road performance and excellent fuel economy. The car gained quite a following during the years of its production and is well known by many car enthusiasts as a solid, all around car. Car production ended in 1992 with the Honda CR-X being replaced with the Honda Civic Del Sol.
The Honda CR-X is also known as the Honda Ballade Sports CR-X in its home country of Japan. In some car markets it is also named as the Honda Civic CR-X. In the American car market, it is primarily known as the Honda CR-X. "CR-X" is commonly accepted to mean "Civic Renaissance model X" although there are some disputes regarding this. The car was primarily marketed in the US as an economy sport hatchback. The car had minimal room, being able to seat only two passengers. Many car enthusiasts were impressed with the Honda CR-X due to its excellent handling, impressive road performance and high fuel economy. At a time when gas prices were quite low, the Honda CR-X already achieved gas mileages comparable to the hybrid cars of the present. Notably, the Honda CR-X was also available in an HF trim which was a model that was modified to achieve greater fuel economy. The HF trim of the Honda CR-X was also available without any extra pricing. Production of the Honda CR-X was ended in 1992, making way for the Honda Civic Del Sol. The Del Sol is sometimes marketed as the CR-X Del Sol and are, at times known simply as the CR-X. Although a completely different car, the Del Sol is considered by some enthusiasts as the third and last generation of the Honda CR-X. Since its discontinuation, there are have been many rumors about the return of the Honda CR-X model line. The latest rumor is that the CR-X will return to the car market as a hybrid model in two to three years. The Honda CR-X enjoyed a high market share during its production period and maintains a strong following of enthusiasts to this day.
The first models of Honda CR-X cars were made from 1984 to 1987. These models were equpped with 1.3 litre I4 engines capable of 58 hp, 1.3 litre EV1 I4 engines capable of 60hp and 1.5 litre engines capable of 58 to 76 hp. In 1999, the Honda CR-X also received the B16A 1595cc VTEC engine which gave the car better high revolution power without getting a decrease in fuel economy. This was a popular model of the car and is highly sought after by enthusiasts. Another popular model for Honda CR-X enthusiasts is the glass roofed Honda CR-X which was only sold in the Japanese car market.
The Honda CR-X is a highly valuable car model and is quite popular among car enthusiasts.
