Honda first released the Honda CR-V in 1996. The car was primarily created to provide a sports utility vehicle to the car markets which was a growing demand at the time. The Honda CR-V platform was loosely derived from the successful Honda Civic model. The Honda CR-V is quite popular among car owners for its stability and performance. Notably, the Honda CR-V is also an economical SUV which makes it a sensible choice in the SUV car market.
The Honda CR-V SUV is primarily marketed as a compact crossover SUV. It does not compete with full sized SUVs which gives the car a better market for car owners who want the comfort and economy of a sedan and the cabin size and rugged profile of an SUV. The "CR-V" name of the Honda CR-V has not been made very clear by Honda. Literature regarding the Honda CR-V conflict on the meaning of the letters, some indicating that CR-V stands for Compact Recreational Vehicle while others indicating that it means Comfortable Runabout Vehicle. Originally meant to be a niche vehicle, The Honda CR-V received slow marketing from Honda as the company was reluctant to introduce the car to the American market, unsure as to the capability of the car to perform as well as the Honda Civic. The car was first introduced in the Chicago Auto Show of 1996. The car was released in the United States in 1997, in February. This was mainly due to the strong sales that the Honda CR-V was getting in comparison to its main competitor at the time, the Toyota RAV4. The Honda CR-V has been on continuous production since then and has been a consistent strong seller for Honda.
The first generation of CR-Vs released to the market were quite successful and was in production from 1996 up to 2001. This version of the Honda Cr-V was powered by a 2.0 litre I4 B20B engine which produced 126 hp and a torque force of 133 ft·lbf. It was available as a front wheel drive vehicle or as a four wheel drive with the Real Time 4WD of Honda. The Real Time 4WD of the Honda CR-V has been one of its most attractive features. This system automatically added power to the rear wheels of the car as needed such as when the car was driving up steep inclines. The latest Honda CR-V is the 2007 model. This is the third generation of the Honda CR-V and it features a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder engine capable of 166 hp. Transmission is only available as a five speed automatic.
The Honda CR-V is one of the highest selling cars in the SUV car market. The excellent engineering of the Honda CR-V makes it a very stable and solid SUV. It is also quite economical for its class and is one of the reasons why the car is getting a lot of attention from SUV drivers. Lately, the car has grabbed the top spot for the best selling SUV in the American car market. The combination of solid performance and affordable pricing make the Honda CR-V a great SUV choice. Even earlier models of the Honda CR-V commands respectable prices in the resale market.Headlights by State: ______________________
