In 2003, the first generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class was introduced in Europe. It was an executive-sized sedan but with the looks a coupe with its lowered roof and sporty contours, the car is astoundingly gorgeous. It was chiefly assembled by Daimler AG Car Corporation. The CLS-Class line-up was actually based on the W211 E-Class, only it is 6 inches longer. This modified sedan, or coupe, which it is fondly called, is somewhat the iteration of the discontinued W124 E-Class Coupe, which was then a two-door sedan. Thus, it posed as the first and foremost competitor of the BMW 6-Series. The first ever CLS was the Mercedes Benz C216. By the succeeding year, the production line which included the CLS 500 debuted in America. It was equipped with a 5.0 L V8 boosting 306 hp at 5,600 rpm and 340 ft-lb at 2,700 rpm. The engine is coupled with a 7-speed transmission with manual shift capability. This specialized transmission can be used either or through an optional steering wheel-mounted shift buttons which are also available. What’s amazing with this combination of V8 engine and 7speed transmission is that despite its fairly remarkable speed, it still exhibited efficient fuel economy. Also the CLS500 equipped with the Airmatic Dual Control Suspension which provides a comfortable smooth ride despite the uneven pavestones. Moreover, it the CLS5oo is equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes that have the ability to stop the wheels with same urgency with its acceleration. Interior wise, the cabin of the Cls500 is quite spacious, although with smaller door openings entrance and exit to the rear seat tend to be challenging. However, once settled in its cozy cushions, it’s like lounging on a couch. It has leather upholstered power seats, wood dashboard and console inserts, leather steering wheel that automatically tilts to your desired height and position, and leather shift knobs. The latest standard safety features include seatbelts and airbags that have the ability to sense and react to unfortunate driving conditions. An optional Pre-Safe system can predict an imminent collision. When the system responds to a threatening impact, the sunroof closes, the seatbelts tighten, while the passenger adjusts to a crash positioning. Other standard features includes air conditioning, outside temperature gauge, auto-dimming rear-view mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, projector-beam headlights, eight airbags, childseat sensing airbag with reduced impact, four-zone Thermotronic climate controls, and an electronically controlled head rest system called Neck-Pro. And aside from its plush standard features, the CLS500, like its brethrens has top of the line optional features such as drive authorization system, self cleaning bi-xenon lights, AMG package performance package to further rev up your ride, a premium package, GPS navigation, Parktronic parking sensors, Keylesss Go, Distronic radar-guided cruise control, and a lot more interesting features. However, in spite of the well-earned reputation of Mercedes-Benz for producing first class vehicles, there had been some criticism and dissatisfaction of the CLS line-up. Despite the commotion, the CLS-Class still came out victorious since it has gained wide acceptance in the market, especially with their AMG modified variants. Related Bookmarks
