The Acura CL is one of Honda's most popular car models. The Acura CL first came out to the market in the years 1997 to 1999. There was no 2000 model for the Acura CL. Instead, a 2001 model was released for the Acura Cl mid year in 2000 and the car has models from 2001 to 2003. The target market of the Acura CL was the mid sized luxury cars market, a niche often connected with young professional car owners who preferred cars that looked classy while being sporty and fun to drive. In this regard, the Acura was a success as it is one of the most preferred cars during the years of its release. Many considered the Acura CL to be the replacement of the equally popular Acura Legend coupe. The selling point of the Acura CL was its subtle mix of luxury and sportiness.
Due to the lack of an Acura CL release in the year 2000, the Acura CL is often thought of as having two generations of release, the first being the 1990s release which were during the years of 1997 to 1999. This "first generation" Acura CLs were one of the most successful car models of their respective release years selling a large number of units. The "second generation" Acura CLs were released in the years 2001 to 2003. The Acura CL had a relative high number of sales even with several criticisms coming in during its release and competition with its own sister model, the Acura TL. The Acura CL was completely removed from production by 2003 due to the declining sales of the unit and the increasing success of the Acura TL which was up for a redesign for the year 2004. Currently, there are no Acura CL models being released and, since the discontinuation of the Acura CL, there has been no mid sized luxury coupe alternative for the Acura.
The 1997 model of the Acura CL was offered with a 3 litre J30 V6 that carried a 200hp. An alternate configuration offerd a 2.2 litre I4 engine producing 150hp. The 1998 and 1999 Acura Cls had 2.3 litre F23A1 engines producing 152HP. The 1997 to 1999 models of the Acura Cl were offered with different trims. Notably, the "Premium" trim offered a truly luxurious experience with leather seats and high quality Bose stereos. One of the common complaints of the 1997 to 1999 model of the Acura CL was the common driver side window malfunctions which occurred in many models of the Acura CL. This resulted in the company offering repairs for the problem even after the warranty of the units had expired. Acura did not issue a mass recall regarding the problem. The 2001 to 2003 models of the Acura CL had 3.2 liter engines producing 225 hp. The 2001 to 2003 models also had an alternate "Type S" configuration which offered a more powerful engine which produced and output of 260ho at 6100 rpm. Many were impressed with the 2001 to 2003 models of the Acura CL. However, there was a large clamor for the lack of manual transmission models offered for these Acura CL models. Also, the automatic 5 speed transmission of the Acura CL was prone to miss-shifts and other shifting problems. These problems do not occur with the manual transmission Acura CL models.
Acura CL car models are one of the most enduring car models of Acura. This is especially true with the 1997 to 1999 models which have experienced few complaints other than a few trivial problems. The 2001 to 2003 models of the Acura CL are, however problematic if the transmission box is an automatic. Manual transmission Acura CLs are much better models to hang on to. The bottom line is, Acura CL 1997 to 1999 models are way outdated compared to new cars. Maintenance costs are sure to be high. The 2001 to 2003 models are much better although, if it is an automatic, it might be a good idea to start thinking about a replacement.Headlights by State: ______________________
