The C10 as a reliable half-ton truck on the roadThe C10 is a member of the C/K truck and pick-up line of both GMC and Chevrolet. There are a number of trucks and pick-ups that are offered under this line-up and the presence of this line up in the market for many decades. Simply stated the C and the K has meanings in the C/K nomenclature that was used by General Motors. When the vehicle carried the name C, then that vehicle was a two-wheel drive vehicle. And if the vehicle carried the K label, then that vehicle was considered as a four-wheel drive vehicle. The very first Chevy pick-up and the ancestor of the vehicles that form part of the C/K line-up first appeared in 1924 though in-house designs did not appear until 1930. "C" trucks had two-wheel drive while "K" models were engineered with four-wheel drive. The C/K is the name for Chevrolet and GMC's full-size pickup truck line from 1960 to 1998.This line-up was available in four generations and a number of tweaks and upgrades were made on these vehicles and the C10 along the way. The C/K light-duty pickup truck was replaced with the GMC Sierra in 1988 then the Chevrolet Silverado in 1999; the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD heavy-duty pickup trucks followed in 2001.When the first generation of the C/K series was made available, a number of first were registered by the line-up. This was the time when a new body style was adopted by the trucks from Chevy and General Motors. It was the time when the drop-center ladder frame was adopted by the vehicle. And perhaps the more important thing that happened was the sudden shift in the adoption of a new naming system or nomenclature. This was no longer the ear for the 3100 and the 3600 designations; rather a new form of name-calling was established. The new system called for the use of 10, 20 and the use of 30 in designating the weight of the vehicle. For example the 10 label will refer to ton truck, the 20 for ton truck and the 30 referred to 1 ton truck. This means that the C/10 was a two wheel drive and a ton vehicle. The C10 was simply the base model of the first generation of the C/K line-up. For the 1962 version of the vehicle, the vehicle used the torsion bar for its front suspension and used the trailing arm suspension for the rear end of the vehicle. The base engines that were used include the 236 cubic inch and the 135 horsepower engine, the 261 cubic inch and the 150 horsepower engine and the 283 inch V8 that can produce 185 horsepower. The C10 was simply the base model of the Chevy trucks under the C/K line-up but this truck holds its ground when it comes to light duty applications. Though the truck may not be as good as the one ton version when it comes to towing applications and performance, still the C10 submits reliable performance on the road. For not-so heavy duty applications, then the C10 can meet the demands of the drivers. Headlights by State: ______________________
