BMW or Bayerische Motoren Werke AG or Bavarian Motor Company is a manufacturer of car based in Munich, Germany that has been in existence since 1913. They are one of the pioneering makers of luxurious and high-performance automobiles as well as motorcycles. In fact, they are the parent company of other car brands like Roll Royce and MINI. It logo is mistaken to symbolize that of the spinning propeller. However, the truth is that it represents the colors of the Bavarian flag where the company is based while the round badge is credited to its predecessor company – the Rapp Motorenwerke.
The initial products of BMW were aircraft engines and list of other various products. However, in 1923, they started to make motorcycles. About five years later, they have ventured into making cars and automobiles. The first official motorcycle product was R32, after failing two attempts with Helios and Flink. This specific motorcycle had Box-type of an engine making the prototype of motorcycle until the 1980’s. The only specific alteration was the addition of a sidecar feature in the Second World War. In 1983, the K series or the Flying Brick was introduced giving rise to water-cool and 3 to 4-cylinder motorcycles. On the automobile side, in 1994, BMW bought the British Rover group thereby acquiring the Rover, the Land Rover and the MG marks. However, 2000 saw the decline in sales forcing the all three marquees to different car manufacturers. In 2001, they launched the now popular MINI brand. Currently, BMW has an automobile side and a motorcycle side known as Motorrad.
BMW is famed the series of cars it has produced. The 1 series are small luxury or small luxury cars known for its rear-wheel drive and longitudinal mounted engine with most current version known as 123d. The 3 series started production in 1975 where it is a compact executive car. Its more current version is the 2002 coupe. The 5 series is a midsized luxury or executive car and its most popular version is the E39 5. The 7 series are full-sized luxury vehicles and the most current model is the 760Li. The X3 series are compact crossover SUV and its most awarded model is the X3 3.0i. The X5 series began production and marketing in 1999 and these are mid-sized crossover SUV. The Z4 series are rear-wheel drive sports cars and its latest model is the Z4 3.0i Roadster. The M versions are the high-performance counterparts of any series.
In the future, BMW has laid some good plans for their future cars. They are planning to release a Z10 or an M10 than would surpass the abilities of a Z8. An X5 M may likely be developed too to provide the X5 a High performance counterpart. The X1 will be a sports utility vehicle based on the 1 series. The PAS will be based on the 7 series with a 5-seater hatchback-style car. The F01 and F02 will replace the 7 series in 2008 and 2009 while the CS will revive the 8-series nameplate in the form of a grand tourer or a coupe.
BMW never hesitates to better itself every year. The make more and more cars much to the delight of car fanatics because they live up to the tagline: “Advancement thru Technology”.Headlights by State: ______________________
