The Mazda B2600 was a 1987 to 1993 pickup truck model from the long running Mazda B-Series of compact pickup trucks. Market sales for the Mazda B2600 were on the high side.
The Mazda B2600 was a 2.6 litre version of the Mazda B-Series of compact pickup trucks. Traditionally, all Mazda B-Series pickup trucks reflect the engine displacement that they use in their naming. Thus, the '2600' part of the Mazda B2600 name indicated the 2.6 litre displacement of the engine used by the Mazda B2600. The Mazda B2600 was first released in the North American market in 1986. The production of the Mazda B2600 continued until the 1993 model year, making it one of the longest running pickup truck models in the Mazda B-Series line of pickup trucks. A badge engineered version of the Mazda B2600 was also marketed as the Ford Raider and was sold as a station wagon. The Mazda B2600 is one of the most popular pickup trucks in the world and is often featured currently by pickup truck modders who add modifications to the truck mainly for aesthetic purposes. Sales of the Mazda B2600 were quite good which explains the long production period that the Mazda B2600 received.
The Mazda B2600 used a G54B 2.6 litre I4 engine capable of 102 hp for model years 1987 to 1988 and a G6 2.6 litre I4 engine capable of 121 hp for model years 1989 to 1993. The body of the Mazda B2600 was a 2 door compact pickup truck. The standard layout for the truck was a front engine rear wheel drive layout. A four wheel drive version was also available. The available transmission was either a 5 speed manual transmission or a 4 speed automatic transmission. The Mazda B2600 did not quite top its particular vehicle market segment but it was one of the better compact pickup truck models available at the time. The engine of the Mazda B2600 proved to be powerful enough for most everyday use. The acceleration of the Mazda B2600 was about class average. The suspension of the pickup truck was one of its better features, taking care of most road bumps reasonably well. However, the Mazda B2600 was prone to an overexcited rear suspension, a common complaint among compact pickup trucks. The steering and handling were also quite impressive. The Mazda B2600 had very responsive steering and firm handling. Fuel consumption for the truck was also above average for its class.
The Mazda B2600 is a solid performing compact pickup truck. Although not as powerful nor as full of features as other models in the pickup truck market, it did its job quite well. The Mazda B2600 is also legendary for its reliability and durability as many former and present owners of the truck will attest. Available only in the second hand market, the Mazda B2600 offers an excellent package of affordability, reliability and light duty performance. Headlights by State: ______________________
