The Pontiac Aztek was offered as a mid size crossover sport utility vehicle by Pontiac, a marque of General Motors. Throughout its production period, the car was a slow seller. The Pontiac Aztek was an edgily designed mid size crossover SUV which. In fact, the most notable feature of the SUV, for better or for worse, was its design. For the most part, sport utility vehicle owners rarely if ever took their vehicles for off road use. In view of this, General Motors decided to market a vehicle which aimed to provide the preferred SUV features of SUV car owners such as better carrying capacity, higher driver seating and an outdoor lifestyle design without the bane of SUV vehicles such as poor gas mileage, difficult entry height and roll over potential. The Pontiac Aztek first received public exposure in 1999. The concept car received a lot of positive comments when it was featured. Its futuristic styling targeted at the Generation X car buyer was lauded to be cutting edge and highly desirable. The production version of the Pontiac Aztek was not quite a success, however. Throughout its production period, the main sales market of the Pontiac Aztek proved to be in rental company fleets. While the concept version of the Pontiac Aztek was well received, the production version of the vehicle received quite the opposite market reaction. The design of the Pontiac Aztek was regularly criticized, mainly because of the excessive cladding of the vehicle. Like the overdone tail fins of the Cadillac in the late 1950s, the cladding design cues of the Pontiac Aztek had become overdone and car buyers were no longer impressed. The Pontiac Aztek also carried a very high price tag which made the Pontiac Aztek way beyond the reach for its target "Generation X" car buyers. The Pontiac Aztek was discontinued after its 2005 model year and the SUV was replaced by the Pontiac Torrent. The Pontiac Aztek mid size crossover SUV was offered in a 4 door sport utility vehicle body style. The SUV was available as either a front engine front wheel drive vehicle or as a four wheel drive vehicle. The Pontiac Aztek was built on the U-body platform of General Motors. Only one engine was available for the Pontiac Aztek. This was the LA1 V6 engine with a displacement of 3.4 litres. The only available transmission was a 4T65-E four speed automatic transmission. The Pontiac Aztek was offered with a Versatrak system, a fully automatic, full time all wheel drive system which gave excellent traction for the vehicle in slippery road conditions and gave the Pontiac Aztek limited off road capabilities. The design of the Pontiac Aztek was one of the first vehicle designs done completely through rapid prototyping, rapid visualization computer tools. As a second hand car models, the Pontiac Aztek will be more attractive primarily due to the lower price of the car. The Pontiac Aztek was actually a well designed, albeit over styled SUV and the major cause of its market failure was its high, uncompetitive price. . Headlights by State: ______________________
