He could not use his family name further because his former business partners sued him for copyright infringement. In 1958, Daimler-Benz acquired more than 85% of the Auto Union. In 1964, Volkswagen bought the factory along with all Auto models. They revolutionized the new cars manufactured into four-stroke engines like the F102 and F103. In 1969, they merged with NSU hence the new name “Audi NSU Auto Union AG”. They produced some prominent models like the 100, the Fox, and the 50. In 1985, the company’s official name was Audi Ag because of the dropping of the Auto Union and NSU brands. The 1990’s saw the decline of sales because of some problems with the 80 model backed by negative publicity. However, in mid 1990’s, sales were better because of the manufacturing of the A4 in 1996. The next few models have been figured in the racetrack erasing numerous track records. Up to now, the sales have consistently been on an upswing.
The various models that have made Audi a household name are the A4 – a luxury compact executive car, the A8 – a full-sized luxury executive car, and the R8 – a sports prototype racecar.
With the recent developments, Audi plans to surpass the giants of Benz and BMW in 2015. They also plan to tap Sanyo for a hybrid car product for Volkswagen.
Audi has gone along way since the early 1900’s. Although the car business was tough, they have managed to survive the tests of time and promising to surprise everyone with their future models.Headlights by State: ______________________
