The Oldsmobile Alero was a compact vehicle sold by Oldsmobile, a division of General Motors. The Oldsmobile Alero was first introduced in 1998 as a replacement for the Oldsmobile Achieva. Sales figures for the Oldsmobile Alero were good during its production period.
The Oldsmobile Alero was first introduced to the car markets in 1998 and was sold a sa 1999 model year car. It was the replacement model of the discontinued Oldsmobile Achieva and the Oldsmobile Cutlass. The Oldsmobile Alero is was the last compact car to be sold by Oldsmobile and was also the last vehicle ever sold under the Oldsmobile marque. The Oldsmobile Alero was first shown with the Alero Alpha concept vehicle shown in 1997. The concept vehicle was a sport coupe with mane advanced design elements. Some of the design cues of the Alero Alpha concept made it to the production version of the car, others were dropped. During its release, the Oldsmobile Alero was sold in two body styles, the 4 door sedan and the 2 door coupe. These were further split to three trim levels offering different levels of equipment. The Oldsmobile Alero remained essentially the same throughout its production period. Only minimal changes were introduced to the car for every model year. During the production ending of the Oldsmobile Alero, 500 special edition models of the Oldsmobile Alero were produced. These were called the Final 500 Edition of the Oldsmobile Alero. These versions of the car featured a dark cherry metallic paint and carried vintage Oldsmobile logo graphics. The car also came with a plate which carried the number of the car out of the 500 produces. The 500th car produced of the Final 500 Edition was also the last Oldsmobile vehicle ever built. Interestingly, a planned replacement for the Oldsmobile Alero was introduced in 2001 named the Oldsmobile O4 concept. However, the car was never built as the Oldsmobile car marque ended with the Oldsmobile Alero.
The Oldsmobile Alero compact car was sold in either a 2 door coupe body or a 4 door sedan body. The car had a front engine front wheel layout body. The Oldsmobile built on the N platform which it shared with other General Motor car models including the Pontiac Grand Am. There were a number of engines available for the car depending on the production period. From the 1999 to the 2001 production period of the Oldsmobile Alero, the car was available wwith a LD9 2.4 litre I4 engine which produced a power output of 150 hp and a torque force output of 155 lb-ft. From 2002 to 2004, this engine was replaced with an Ecotec L61 2.2 litre I4 engine with a power output of 140 hp and a torque force output of 150 lb-ft. Throughout its production period, a V6 engine was available for the Oldsmobile Alero which was the LA13.4 litre V6 engine with a power output of 170 hp and a torque output of 210 lb-ft.
